The Omaha Lancers' home opener was spoiled Friday night when the Des Moines Buccaneers defeated Omaha 4-2.
Omaha (1-2-0-0) scored their first goal while shorthanded at 13:16 into the second period. Forward
Ryan Aaronson found himself on a breakaway before cashing in to cut the Lancers' deficit in half at 2-1.
Just minutes later,
Yegor Kim knotted the game up at two goals apiece after scoring short-side on Buccaneers netminder Jon Kavcic to make it 2-2 going into the third.
However, in the third, Des Moines (3-0-0-0) held Omaha to just three shots on goal, all coming in the last two minutes of the frame. Nash Paine notched the game-winner for the Bucs just over two minutes into the third period to help give Des Moines the eventual 4-2 win and keep the Buccaneers at an undefeated start to the young season.
The Lancers are back in action Saturday night, when they will take on the very same Des Moines Buccaneers club in Liberty First Credit Union Arena at 6:05 p.m. Single-game tickets for home games, as well as ticket packages, are available for purchase now.
