The Omaha Lancers' three-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-3 loss to the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center.
Omaha (6-7-1-0) entered the third period leading 3-2 but surrendered four goals in the final frame. Sioux City (6-9-1-0) earned its first win in eight games when trailing after 40 minutes.
The Lancers scored at least twice in a period for a fourth straight frame with a two-goal first period. Tommy Spencer knifed through the defense and scored his third goal of the season at the 3:04 mark. Mason Noble dropped the puck off for Spencer behind the Omaha net, and Spencer went coast-to-coast to put the Lancers on the board first for the fifth time this season.
Charlie Vig scored for the second time in as many days when he made it 2-0 at the 5:34 mark of the first period. He redirected Todd Kilpela's shot from the right point to give the Lancers two quick goals just 1:20 apart.
Sioux City got a goal back on the power play at the 12:21 mark of the first period. Evan Jones was left all alone on the left wing and scored just four seconds into the man advantage.
Like Vig, Artem Prima scored for the second straight day as he put the Lancers ahead by two goals again at the 3:38 mark of the second period. Yegor Kim attempted to center the puck to Prima in front of the net, but his pass ended up becoming a shot when it drifted too close to the crease. Goaltender Hugo Severgardh made the pad save, but Prima buried the rebound.
Daniil Butin brought the Musketeers back within one goal with his team-leading ninth goal of the season. He scored at four-on-four on a backhand shot at the 6:39 mark of the second period.
The Musketeers tied the game 6:13 into the third period when Jack Brauti scored his third goal of the season. The second tally by a Sioux City defenseman came from the edge of the right circle to make it 3-3. Dominik Bednar put Sioux City in the lead for the first time at the 12:09 mark on a wrist shot from atop the far circle. Cole Sabourin provided insurance at the 15:16 mark before Wyatt Sypniewski scored an empty-net goal at the 18:04 mark.
The Lancers return home Nov. 13 to take on the Sioux Falls Stampede for Military Appreciation Night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at lancers.com.
