LANCERS POUNCE EARLY, HOLD ON LATE TO BEAT STARS

The Omaha Lancers won their first I-80 Rivalry matchup of the season with a 3-2 win over the Lincoln Stars on Friday night at the Ice Box.

Omaha (4-6-1-0) raced out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a three-goal first period. The Lancers had scored three goals in the first period over their first 10 games of the season but matched that total in the first 20 minutes of the 2026-27 installment of the I-80 Rivalry.

Lincoln (4-7-1-0) scored twice in the second period and outshot Omaha, 40-24. The Lancers recorded their third straight win head-to-head vs. the Stars dating back to last season.

Jack Stanius opened the scoring at the 6:31 mark of the first after the Lancers nearly coughed up the games' first goal. The Stars got a couple of point-blank shots off against Anthony Sciere and a loose puck came to the top of the crease. The Lancers were able to quickly pounce on it and lead an odd-man rush the other way. Matty Lynn carried the puck into the zone, drifted toward the near wall before setting up Stanius in the slot. Stanius delayed to the backhand to slip the puck around goaltender William Prowse. He has now scored 6 of his 14 career goals against Lincoln.

Rylan Bydal scored for the third time in the last three games and for the second time on the power play in that span to make it 2-0. Shortly after a four-on-four sequence ended and the Lancers went on the man advantage, Bydal redirected a shot in the slot from Artem Prima at the right point at the 11:25 mark. Bydal is tied for second on the Lancers with four goals and Prima picked up his team-leading sixth assist.

Tanner Morgan capped the three-goal opening frame with a backdoor tap in at the 14:48 mark. Stanius flung the puck across ice to Reese Lantz for a one-timer and the rebound bounced to Morgan at the side of the net. His second goal of the season was also his second in the last three games and 20th of his Lancers career.

Sam Kline put the Stars on the board at the 8:52 mark of the third period off a turnover. Evan Malkhassian brought Lincoln within one goal at the 12:04 mark with a power-play goal. That broke up a stretch of 15 consecutive successful Omaha penalty kills.

The I-80 Rivalry shifts to Liberty First Credit Union Arena as Omaha hosts Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets can be purchased at lancers.com
