LANCERS FALL TO THE LINCOLN STARS

Depleted Lancers' Blueline Was Too Much To Overcome In Loss To The Stars.

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers and Lincoln Stars resumed their rivalry on Military Appreciation Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The Lancers were coming off a tough week with losses to Lincoln and Des Moines; totaling just 2 goals in as many games. Meanwhile the Lincoln Stars had found their winning touch once again, defeating both the Lancers and Sioux City Musketeers. The Lancers had come into this game losing 6 of their last 8 regular season meetings with the Stars dating back to February of this year.

The first period opened with a ton of offense. Starting early with Lancer forward Vincent Salice, who continues his phenomenal start to the season. Lancer forward Tanner Rowe found Salice from below the goal line, as Salice buried it which opened up a 1-0 Omaha lead.

That lead would be short lived however, as Lincoln defenseman D.J. Hart wrists one through a screen to tie it all up at one apiece.

Lincoln would not be done, as forward Jared Mangan would find the back of the net, making it 2-1 Lincoln.

Omaha would later respond, as forwards Alex Bump and Andon Cerbone found themselves on a break. Bump's patience helped find Cerbone on the wing to bury it; tying back up the game 2-2.

Lincoln though would come right back with a rather controversial goal. Lincoln came in on a rush, amidst the chaos, Lincoln forward Keaton Peters crashes the crease, throwing Lancer netminder Michael Hrabal out of position, before Hrabal could re-establish himself in net, a streaking Cole Crusberg-Roseen sends it past a reeling Hrabal making it 3-2 Lincoln after the first.

The shortened second period had a more tight, defensive game, as both teams clearly adjusted during the first intermission.

At 2:25 into the second, Lancer forward Luke Amell, and Lincoln defenseman Jack Sparkes squared off in what should already be labeled the "fight of the season". The two heavy weights matched each other punch for punch, before Amell threw and landed uppercuts on Sparkes, as Amell would eventually take down the 6'8 234 pound LA Kings draft pick.

The second period would stall out at the 6:09 mark due to technical difficulties.

The continuation of the second period opened with a 4-on-3 powerplay for Lincoln, as Will Diamond was accessed a goaltender interference penalty earlier. Lincoln would capitalize as Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Klavs Veinbergs put it away; extending Lincoln's lead at 4-2.

The third period was controlled by Lincoln from start to finish. Hrabal did all he could to help Omaha stay in the game, but it was not enough.

Lincoln forward Klavs Veinbergs managed to get his second goal of the night, after he got a hold of a rebound to put Lincoln up 5-2.

The game ended with a 5-2 Lincoln victory, as the Lancers fall to 4-6-2-1. Meanwhile the Lincoln Stars picked up their third win in a row; improving their record to 9-3-0-0. The Lancers are back in action tomorrow night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena opening the season series with the Fargo Force. Puck drop is at 6:05 CST.
