AARONSON SHORTHANDER NOT ENOUGH AT DES MOINES

Ryan Aaronson scored his second shorthanded goal in the last three games but the Omaha Lancers fell to the Des Moines Buccaneers, 4-1, on Friday night at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

Joey Argentina scored twice to keep Des Moines (5-0-0-0) undefeated.

Omaha (1-4-0-0) outshot Des Moines, 33-23, and even collected the first eight shots of the game, but never led Friday night. Aaronson scored the Lancers' lone goal of the night at the 6:55 mark of the second period cut the deficit to one but Omaha was unable to tie the game.

Argentina scored his USHL-leading third shorthanded goal of the season at the 6:03 mark of the second period for the eventual game-winner. He added insurance at the 14:13 mark of the third. Argentina has scored in all five games this season and is tied for the USHL lead with six goals.

The Buccaneers scored their first goal of the night at the 12:59 mark of the first. Clarke Nehmens intercepted a clearing attempt but missed the net on a shot. Lancers couldn't control loose puck as it ricocheted off the glass to the front of the net to Logan Smith all alone.

Becker Wenkus scored Des Moines' other goal and restored a two-goal lead at the 10:35 mark of the third. His shot from the blue line off an offensive zone faceoff win changed direction off a defender on its way to the net and made it 3-1, Buccaneers.

The Lancers' penalty kill continued its superb work with a 5-for-5 night. Omaha is perfect in its last 13 penalty kills.

The Lancers' next game is Oct. 10 against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. It is the second of three consecutive road games for Omaha before returning home Oct. 17 to face Tri-City. Tickets for all Lancers home games can be purchased at lancers.com
