OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are proud to announce that Defenseman, Mateo Picozzi has selected Mercyhurst University to pursue his division one college hockey career.
Picozzi, 20, of Morristown, New Jersey came to the Lancers near the halfway mark of the 2021-22 season. Skating in 29 total games including four Clark Cup Playoff games. Consisting of a two-game sweep of the Fargo Force, followed by a series loss to the Tri-City Storm in the Western Conference Semi-Final.
The 6-foot tall, 193 pound blueliner has skated in a total of 126 games for the Lancers since his debut on February 5th, 2022. Within his USHL stretch, he was tallied nine assists.Â
Prior to his junior hockey experience, Picozzi played stints with the New Jersey Rockets 16U and 18U AAA programs, along with Trinity-Pawling Prep.Â
The Mercyhurst Lakers finished the 2023-24 season with a 9-22-4 record, leading Army and Robert Morris in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Picozzi is set to attend Mercyhurst in the fall of 2024.
