OMAHA FALLS TO THE STAMPEDE; WINS TWO GAMES ON THE WEEKEND

Three Unanswered Goals From Sioux Falls In The Third, Pushes Them To 5-3 Win.

SIOUX FALLS, SD. – The Omaha Lancers and Sioux Falls Stampede squared off on Friday night (3/15) back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena, resulting in a 7-3 dominant victory for the Lancers. Extending their win streak to three games and having five players with multi-point nights.

This afternoon the two squads would go at it again. This time, at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

Both teams would be well rested after having an off day yesterday, which should make for yet another fast-paced matchup.

Just like Friday's contest, Sioux Falls was able to strike first as Will McDonough started the rush for the Stampede and had a nifty no-look pass back to Chase LaPinta for a one-timer in between the hash marks. The shot beat Lancers' netminder, Mikhail Yegorov who was sliding across the crease blocker side, making it an early 1-0 lead for Sioux Falls.

The Lancers were able to knot the game at one following a defensive zone draw won by David Deputy.

Charlie Lieberman was able to take the puck up ice following the faceoff and after exchanging a pass with Bobby Cowan, Lieberman sent a low wrist shot from the top of the near-side circle that beat Stampede Goaltender, Christian Manz five-hole. Handing Lieberman his second goal of the season and forcing a 1-1 tie through 20 minutes.

The second period replicated the first, with Sioux Falls regaining the one goal lead early, coming off the stick of Hunter Anderson just 3:11 into the frame. McDonough tacked on another primary assist on the play, moving him to a multi-point night with two assists.

Within the first 14 minutes of the period, Omaha was held to just four shots on goal, but tallied six in the final five minutes. Including a shot that tied the game.

Nick Sykora made a defensive zone pass to Noah Jones, who found Sam Scheetz behind the Stampede defense. Jones hit Scheetz with a stretch pass leading to a breakaway goal. Handing Scheetz his third goal of the weekend, and fourth of the season.

With 1:54 remaining in the period, Drew DellaSalla was sent to the box with a double-minor for high-sticking. The Lancers killed off the rest of the period, sending the teams into the second break tied a two.

The Lancers took their first and only lead of the night 4:20 into the third period of play as Ryan Kusler netted a power-play goal while on the two-man advantage with Nick Pierre and Jamison Sluys picking up the helpers to make it a 3-2 lead for Omaha.

The tides would turn at the halfway mark of the period with Jaksen Panzer tallying his 16th goal of the season to tie the game with 10:12 remaining in regulation.

The Stampede would then score twice late in period with J.J. Wiebusch netting the game-winner at the 16:14 mark, followed by Panzer adding his second goal of the night off a defensive zone turnover by the Lancers. Finishing the game with a 5-3 win for Sioux Falls.

Mikhail Yegorov finished a great game between the pipes with stopping 43 of 48 shots on the night, including a USHL Save of the Year candidate save while the game was tied at three.

The Lancers will be back in action on Friday, March 22nd on home ice as they will try to take the lead in their season long series with the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop is set for 7:05PM CST. That game will be available on FloSports and Mixlr.
