OMAHA, NE- The Omaha Lancers and Lincoln Stars would resume what is the biggest rivalry in junior hockey Saturday Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The Lancers defeated the Tri-City Storm Friday Night in a 1-0 overtime thriller while the Lincoln Stars would suffer defeat at the hands of the Dubuque Fighting Saints the very same night.
The first period would have Lincoln score early with forward Gio Digiulian to put the Stars up 1-0. The Lancers would respond later in the first with forward Nick Sykora after pivoting with the puck at the top of the slot Sykora would wrist it past Yan Shostak to knot up the game at one. Lincoln would score shortly after with forward Lefty Markonidis to put Lincoln back up 2-1. The Stars would score soon after to round out the first period with forward Alex Pelletier stretching the Stars' lead at 3-1.
The Lincoln Stars scored early in the second on the power-play off the stick of defenseman Caeden Herrington to help extend Lincoln's lead at 4-1. Late in the second, the Lancers would go on a 5-on-3 power-play. The Stars killed off the first penalty, but not the second. Lancers forward David Deputy put home a rebound off the end boards to cut the deficit in half at 4-2 going into the third period.
The Lancers would try to rally in the third however, Lincoln's defense and goaltender Yan Shostak would hold-preserving a 4-2 Lincoln win. The Lancers are back in action tomorrow against the Tri-City Storm at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck drop will be at 4:05 PM CST.
