Lancers General Manager David Wilkie resigns post
During his time with the Lancers' organization, Wilkie led the Lancers to three winning seasons, two playoff appearances (was on pace for three during the COVID-19 shutdown season in 2019-20), with three top-three finishes in the western conference, including being ranked 2nd in the west at the time of the COVID-19 shutdown. Combined, the Lancers record was 152-157-24-14 with Wilkie at the helm. At the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season, Wilkie retired from coaching while remaining with the organization as Omaha's general manager and CEO.
Wilkie said in a statement, "For me, this is a day of gratitude, celebration, and great reflection. I would like to thank Mike Picozzi and ownership for the opportunity to work for the club. It is a privilege to be in this league and the USHL has done a terrific job of progressing and developing the league into what it is today.
Thanks to the all the people within the organization, the many great coaches who put in countless hours, the support staff and front office for their tireless work and dedication to the cause.
To the players, all I can say is THANK YOU. Thank you for your work. Thank you for your commitment, resilience and determination. It was my honor to be here with you, I will miss you.
To the fans, it has had its ups and downs over the years, but I want to thank you for continuing to attend, support and love your team. Your passion for this organization is unmatched anywhere. Thank you Lancer Nation.
In closing, I will always be a Lancer. I love this organization and I am very, very appreciative of the opportunity that I was given here, but for me, it's now time to move on to the next chapter.
Thank you, David Wilkie
On behalf of the Omaha Lancers organization, players, and fans, we want to personally thank David for his immeasurable contributions as a player, coach, and front office executive. He truly represents the best of what we stand for and continue to strive for. While his presence will be missed, he is a true champion and contributor to the game of hockey. We wish him the best in the next chapter of life. David Wilkie is, and always will be an Omaha Lancer for life. — Mike Picozzi, Majority Owner.
Wilkie is the only former Lancer to lead the club, as he helped Omaha hoist the Clark Cup in the spring of 1991.
