LANCER COMEBACK ATTEMPT FALLS JUST SHORT

Gamblers three second period goals were too much

GREEN BAY, WI- The Omaha Lancers concluded their weekend in Green Bay in the second and final meeting with the Gamblers this season. The Lancers fell to the Gamblers Friday Night 3-0. However, the Lancers outplayed Green Bay for much of the game-particularly in the first and second periods of play. The first period tonight would be much of the same from the previous night, as the Lancers would dominate Green Bay throughout the opening frame.

The Lancers would get a couple of power-play opportunities that would lead to some quality scoring chances for Omaha however, Green Bay goalie Gavin Moffatt would continue to stand tall. However, with just 12 seconds to go in the first, the Lancers would find the back of the net. Forward Zach Wooten would streak up the ice waiting for his fellow linemate Grant Dillard as Dillard would crash the net. Wooten would find Dillard with a perfect pass as Dillard would send it home to put Omaha up 1-0.

The second period would be a different story for the Lancers. Shortly after the Lancers sustained a head contact infraction, Green Bay forward Will Zellers would pick up where he left off last night-dancing his way through Lancer defenders before burying Green Bay's first goal of the night. Shortly thereafter, Geno Carcone would add another power-play tally for the Gamblers to make it 2-1 Green Bay. Finally, Green Bay would add another off the stick of defenseman Owen Buesgens to stretch Green Bay's lead at 3-1 heading into the third period of play.

The third period would have the Lancers look much better once again. Mid-way through the third, defenseman Jayden Veney would score his first career USHL goal, as Veney would send one off the half boards to cut the deficit at 3-2. The Lancers would continue to control play for the rest of the period however, Green Bay would hold off the offensive thrust of Omaha. Green Bay would add an empty netter to ice the game at 4-2 to give Green Bay the sweep of the weekend series. The Lancers will be back in action next Saturday Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena for the Lancers' home opener against the Chicago Steel. Puck drop will be at 6:05 PM  CST.
