OMAHA, NE- The Omaha Lancers opened their home schedule Saturday Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena against the Chicago Steel. The Lancers were coming off a weekend sweep at the hands of the Green Bay Gamblers last week while the Chicago Steel had a weekend split with a loss to Dubuque and an overtime win against the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The Omaha Lancers came out playing a physical brand of hockey early on. That physical play would help lead to some early chances for the orange and black. Late in the opening frame the Lancers would cash in after killing off back-to-back penalties, forward David Deputy would dish it off to Scheetz in front of the cage before Scheetz would find Jamison Sluys back door as Sluys would tip it in to give Omaha the 1-0 advantage heading into the second period.
The second period would commence with the Lancers dominating the middle frame. After a Chicago penalty, the Lancers power-play would go to work-getting a multitude of grade 'A' scoring chances however, Chicago netminder Jack Parsons would stand on his head backstopping all Lancer shots in the second period of play; including on the lethal Lancers' power-play.
Though the Lancers dominated Chicago throughout the second period, the score would hold a 1-0 Lancer lead going into the third period.
The Lancers would look to finish the Steel in the third with the Lancers continuing to make Chicago uncomfortable offensively. Lancer netminder Kam Hendrickson would continue to be consistent in net backstopping each and every Chicago chance.
Late in the third with Chicago's goalie pulled, the Lancers would ice the game after forward Hunter Ramos would steal it away from the Chicago d-man to cap off a Lancer 2-0 victory. The Lancers would finish the game with 31 takeaways in what helped ensure a shutout win. The Lancers are back in action tomorrow at 4:05 PM CST against the very same Chicago Steel team at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports with the voice of your Omaha Lancers Frank Zawrazky.
