LANCERS UNABLE TO COMPLETE COMEBACK IN 5-4 LOSS

Muskegon Escapes With A Win Following A Wild Third Period From Omaha.

OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers would look to bounce back from last night's game (1/19) against the very same Muskegon Lumberjacks club at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Among those that the Lancers would look to slow down would be Muskegon forward Matvei Gridin who has been a thorn in the Lancers' side this season. Gridin came into tonight's game (1/20) scoring 5 goals in two games head-to-head with Omaha this season.

The first period would have both teams struggle offensively with little to no scoring chances coming in the opening frame.

The second period would have the scoring break open for the Lumberjacks as once again forward Matvei Gridin found the back of the net that would help make it 1-0.

Shortly thereafter, Muskegon would get on the board again as Ethan Whitcomb would deflect one past Lancer goalie Mikhail Yegorov to stretch Muskegon's lead at 2-0.

Muskegon would not be done, as a late power-play opportunity for the 'Jacks would help forward Ty Henricks get on the board to help propel Muskegon to a 3-0 lead heading into the third period of play.

The third period would be action packed from start to finish.

Muskegon forward Ethan Whitcomb would find the back of the net to start; giving Muskegon a 4-0 lead.

However, the Lancers would get on the board with a Will Elger tip out in front to cut into the lead at 4-1.

Muskegon would answer right back with Joe Connor beating out an icing call to put Muskegon back out in front by 4.

At 13:50 into the period, a mad scrum would ensue after Yegorov would get jabbed by a Lumberjack after a whistle, triggering Lancers' Ryan Kroll, Mateo Picozzi, Ryan Kusler, and Cam VanSickle to all jump in to the aid of their goalie. Out of all of that each team would end up 3-on-3.

The Lancers would score on that ensuing 3-on-3. Defenseman Charlie Lieberman would find the back of the net, giving him his first career USHL goal, cutting the deficit at 5-2.
Shortly thereafter, Jamison Sluys would find the back of the cage. And just like that it would be 5-3.

The Lancers were not done as Jamison Sluys would score once again, shooting one off the post and in. Making it 5-4.

The Lancers were not able to complete the comeback however, after a mad offensive gauntlet put on Muskegon all the way to the final horn.

The Lancers are back in action Saturday night (1/27) in Cedar Rapids to take on the RoughRiders. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
