LANCERS BATTLE BACK, BUT FALL IN LINCOLN

Four First Period Goals Fuel A Three-Goal Victory For Lincoln.

LINCOLN, NE. - The Lancers hit the road for the first time this preseason to take on the Lincoln Stars at the Ice Box. After falling in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to the Stars last Friday, the Lancers were looking to overcome their preseason struggles and pick up their first victory.

The first half of the opening period was controlled by the Lancers. Winning over 70 percent of face-offs and leading in the shot count early. However, tides would turn after the ten minute mark of the period.

Two turnovers below the goal line led to Lincoln picking up two one-timer goals from Tyler Wood and Max Ferkodic. Moving the Stars up 2-0 with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period.

Lincoln was not done with first period scoring as Reese Shaw picked a short-side corner on Lancer netminder, Croix Kochendorfer to pull the Stars ahead by a demanding three goals.

Late in the first, it appeared the game would be sent into the first intermission with the Stars up by three, but with just five seconds left, Jack Pechar redirected a shot from Jacob Rombach to extend the lead to four goals through 20 minutes.

Kochendorfer was replaced by goaltender, Jack Olson at the start of the second period.

The Lancers shut down the Lincoln offense for the duration of the second frame, resulting in the Lancers cutting the Stars' lead in half. Two goals within 59 seconds from Cooper Conway and Ethan Fredericks made the score 4-2 through 40 minutes.

The second period also brought more physicality as the two teams combined for 116 penalty minutes, including eight ten minute misconducts. But even with a high amount of penalty minutes, there was only one power-play in total.

Lincoln opened the third period scoring with a rebound goal off the stick of Keaton Peters, which was shortly followed up by the same style of goal from Lancers' Forward, Jamison Sluys at the other end. Good for his second goal and fourth point of the preseason as he made it a 5-3 game.

In the final three minutes, the Lancers had attacking zone possession and decided to pull Olson for the extra-attacker. But after about 45 seconds of empty net action, Ferkodic netted his second goal of the night to seal a 6-3 win for the Stars.

Olson remained strong in net for the Lancers as he turned away 17 of 18 total shots faced. Bringing him to a 1.59 goals-against average and a 0.946 save percentage on the preseason.

The Lancers wrap up their preseason stretch Saturday, September 16th in Kearney, Nebraska to take on the Tri-City Storm. Puck is set to drop at 6:05PM CST. That game can be caught on FloSports and Mixlr.
