OMAHA, NE. - The Lancers concluded the weekend with the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday night (12/16) at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. The Lancers had come off a 4-0 loss to Waterloo the previous night (12/15), while the Sioux City Musketeers rallied past Des Moines in a 4-3 victory Friday (12/15).
The first period had the Lancers coming out with physical play early on led by defenseman David Posma who would lambast forward Easton Jacobs at center-ice in the early going.
Shortly thereafter, Lancer forward Aleksi Kivioja would get in on the physical play that would lead to him dropping the gloves with Musketeer defenseman Owen Keefe. Keefe; giving up 5 inches and 25 pounds would prove to be too much for Keefe to overcome in the bout which would give Kivioja the clear win in the fight.
Eventually, Sioux City would score as forward Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero would be found back-door to cash in which would give Sioux City the 1-0 advantage.
Later, defenseman Finn Loftus would follow up with another Musketeer tally after a battle along the boards would provide a loose puck to Loftus; extending the Musketeers lead at 2-0.
Before the first period would end, more physical play would ensue; with David Posma lambasting Easton Jacobs again, as Jacobs would sail a puck out of play. Sioux City would jump in to stick up for their fallen teammate which would cause a fracas before they would be separated by the linesmen. Posma would be accessed a minor for roughing while Sioux City's Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero would be given a double-minor for roughing going into the second period of play.
The second period would commence with both teams going stagnant offensively while the physical play would continue.
Late in the second however, Sioux City would find the back of the net once again, this time coming off the stick of Musketeer forward Colin Kessler to give Sioux City the 3-0 lead going into the third period of play.
Though the Lancers would come out in the third period down 3-0, the Lancers would keep on persevering throughout.
At 11:14 into the third period, Lancer forward Ethan Fredericks would be accessed a slashing penalty; giving Sioux City a power-play.
However, Lancer forward David Deputy would find himself on a short-handed breakaway, Deputy would back-hand it past Sioux City goalie Dylan Silverstein to cut the Lancers' deficit at 3-1. It would also be Omaha's first short-handed tally this season.
From there, the Lancers would dominate, and before long the Lancers would score yet again. Forward Justin Stupka would wrist one from the top of the circle off an ensuing faceoff win from Ryan Kusler. And just like that, the Lancers were within one at 3-2.
Lancer d-man David Posma would continue to look like the second coming of C.J. Ludwig; proceeding to make an ample amount of open ice hits on the Musketeers.
Eventually, the Lancers would have to pull Mikhail Yegorov for the extra-attacker.
The Lancers would have golden opportunities, but Dylan Silverstein would stand on his head in the process; helping Sioux City hold on for a 3-2 win.
The Lancers will go on Christmas break before coming back on December 29
th on the road against the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop will be at 7:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
