LANCERS DEFEAT THE STARS IN A 3-1 THRILLER

A Pair Of David Deputy Goals Help Propel Omaha Past Lincoln.

OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers and Lincoln Stars renewed the biggest rivalry in North American Junior Hockey Saturday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

The first period began having both teams playing with some intensity early on.

The Lancers would eventually cash in first on the powerplay with forward Jamison Sluys finding the puck back door to put it away to give Omaha the 1-0 advantage.

Before the end of the period a scrum would ensue with Lincoln forward, Tyler Wood retaliating to a Will Elger bump as Wood grabs hold of Elger with the officials in the mix. Wood seemingly felt proud of himself for doing basically nothing in the process. Somehow Will Elger would get the double-minor going into the second period out of all of that non-sense.

The second period would begin with the questionable Lincoln powerplay, as the Lancers would kill it off with ease.

Eventually, the Lancers would score once again as it would come off the stick of forward David Deputy who would come in on the rush and wrist one top shelf; short-side to stretch Omaha's lead at 2-0 going into the third period.

The third period would have Lincoln pressure Omaha throughout, with the Lancers trying to chop up the pace of the period in response.

Late in the third with an extra attacker, Lincoln would eventually cash in with forward Jack Pechar deflecting one past Lancer netminder Mikhail Yegorov to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

However, the Lancers would dash all hope as forward David Deputy would send one down the ice and into the empty net to complete Omaha's victory of 3-1.

During that sequence, Lincoln forward, Dashel Oliver would receive a check from Lancer defenseman, Samo Meritahti that would keep Oliver down on the ice as he would eventually have to be helped off. Thoughts and prayers out to Dashel, as we at Lancer Nation wish him a speedy recovery.

And with 4 seconds to go in the game, a line brawl would ensue, with Cooper Conway, Ben Osiashvili, Teddy Richardson, and Aiden Janz all would be accessed misconducts, roughing, fights, etc. To end the Lancers Lincoln rivalry in style.

The Lancers will be back in action Friday Night against the Sioux City Musketeers in Sioux City. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
