LANCERS SPLIT THE WEEKEND SERIES WITH SIOUX FALLS

Yegorov Pulls A 0.921 Save Percentage, But The Lancers Fall 4-2 On The Road.

SIOUX FALLS, SD. – After a 6-2 victory on home ice against the Sioux Falls Stampede and capturing four of the available six points in their last three matchups, the Lancers were looking to close out the weekend with a road victory in their rematch with the Stampede.

The first period had a lot of offensive power for the Lancers early, picking up ten shots on goal in the opening nine minutes. But they trailed by one through 20 minutes.

A power-play goal by J.J. Wiebusch at the 11:15 mark of the period made it a 1-0 game. And shortly after, Micah Berger scored his second goal of the weekend on even strength, shortly following a penalty to David Deputy.

Just when it seemed Sioux Falls flipped the momentum, the Lancers struck.

Drew DellaSalla netted his fourth goal of the season with just 2:27 remaining in the frame with Jamison Sluys and Samo Meritahti picking up assists. Sending the two teams into the first break with Sioux Falls leading 2-1.

The second period brought no scoring to this matchup, but the Stampede were dominant. Outshooting the Lancers 14-3 in the second period. Bringing the total shot tally to 26-17 on the night.

The third period was a lot like the second until the final three minutes of play.

Bennett Hendrickson netted what would be the game winning goal with 2:29 remaining off a Lancers' defensive turnover in their own zone, making it a 3-1 game.

Shortly thereafter, the Lancers pulled Mikhail Yegorov from the net and found the back of it just seconds later with a goal from Will Elger to pull Omaha back within one. Rylan Brady and Ryan Kusler picked up assists on the play.

Lastly, after another try with the extra-attacker, Sioux Falls buried an empty-netter off the stick of Hendrickson to cap off a 4-2 win for the Stampede.

Yegorov had himself a solid night in net, turning away 35 of 38 shots faced, good for a 0.921 save percentage. Caleb Heil at the other end stopped 23 of 25 for a nearly identical save percentage.

The Lancers will be back in action Thursday, November 16th on home ice to take on the Des Moines Buccaneers. Puck drops at 7:05PM and that game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
