OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers concluded its weekend series with the Fargo Force Saturday Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena where the Lancers would look to hand Fargo its first loss of the season.
The first period would provide a lot of offense as early on the Lancers would get on the board first as forward Aleksi Kivioja remains red hot as he would receive a pass through the goalie's crease from Nick Pierre as Kivioja puts it home to give Omaha the 1-0 lead.
Later, the Lancers would get a powerplay opportunity and for the first time this season Fargo gives up a powerplay goal as Lancer froward Jamison Sluys cashes in top shelf to put Omaha up 2-0 as Sluys would hush the Fargo bench.
Fargo however, would find their offense as forward Harper Bentz would find the back of the net to cut the deficit at 2-1.
Shortly thereafter, Omaha would have too many men on the ice to give the number one powerplay in the league an opportunity to tie it up for the Force, and tying it up is just what Fargo would do as forward Gavin Kor would receive a feed in the slot to make it a tied game heading into the second period of play.
The second period would contrast what the first period had with 0 goals scored in the middle frame.
However, Omaha would put out yet another strong performance in the second despite questionable calls being made on the orange and black. The game would remain tied at two going into the third.
The third period would continue where the second period had left off up until late when Fargo defenseman Michael Neumeier would rip one from the point through traffic which would cause a fluke bounce as the puck would ricochet off Mateo Picozzi's pant leg and in the back of the net to give Fargo the 3-2 lead late.
Shortly thereafter, Fargo would put away an empty net goal to ascend the Force to a 4-2 victory.
The Lancers are back in action Friday Night in Madison Wisconsin to take on Ethan Elias and the Madison Capitols. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
