OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers opened its season series with the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena as Omaha would look to pick up where it left off offensively one night ago.
The first period would have the Lancers playing an aggressive style of play early on however, Sioux Falls would draw first blood as forward Jaksen Panzer would cash in on a rebound to put Sioux Falls in front at 1-0.
Later, the Lancers would respond with a goal of their own as forward David Deputy received a feed from Jamison Sluys in front of the cage to put one home to tie it up at one goal apiece going into the second period of play.
The second period would be dominated by Sioux Falls as they would more than triple Omaha in shots on goal. However, Omaha would strike first as forward Nick Pierre would attempt a pass out in front of the cage as the puck would bounce off a Sioux Falls skater and into back of the net to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead.
Sioux Falls would eventually take over throughout the rest of the middle frame but, Lancer netminder Mikhail Yegorov would stand tall in net back stopping the offensive thrust of the Stampede.
Stampede forward Will McDonough would make his way up the ice and with just 3 seconds left in the second McDonough would send a wicked wrist shot from the faceoff circle as he would find the top corner to tie it back up at two goals apiece heading into the third period.
The third period would provide back-and-forth action on both ends of the ice with the Lancers once again finding the back of the net, as forward Will Elger would put one 5-hole after receiving a feed from David Deputy to give the Lancers a 3-2 lead.
Sioux Falls would begin to once again press as the Stampede dominated on the faceoff circle throughout the second and third periods of play.
Sioux Falls would eventually cash in as defenseman Jake Toll would wrist one from the point and find the back of the net to tie it back up at three.
Overtime would eventually commence and it would not take long for Sioux Falls to put it away as forward Chris Pelosi would score to give Sioux Falls a 4-3 overtime defeat over the Lancers.
Milhail Yegorov turned aside 46 of 50 total shots on goal, coming out of his first USHL start with a 0.920 save percentage.
