OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers concluded its season series with the Dubuque Fighting Saints Friday Night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena where the Lancers would look to avenge its 7-3 loss a week ago to this very same Dubuque club.
The first period would be a high scoring affair as early on the Lancers would get on the board first with forward Christian Kocsis cashing in on a rebound to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead.
Dubuque would make that lead short-lived however, as just 10 seconds into a Fighting Saint powerplay forward Erik Pahlsson would redirect a shot backdoor to tie it up at one apiece.
Shortly thereafter, Dubuque forward Teddy Merrill would deflect a shot from the point to give the Fighting Saints a 2-1 lead.
However, the Lancers would come right back as forward Drew DellaSalla would pass a puck out in front before deflecting off a Dubuque skater and in the back of the net which would tie it back up at two goals apiece.
The Lancers would not be done as forward DellaSalla would find the back of the cage as the Kocsis, Stupka, and DellaSalla line accounted for all three goals for the Lancers in the opening frame.
Dubuque would tie it right back up as forward Juraj Pekarcik crashed the net to put it home after Lancer netminder Eric Olsson was unable to corral the rebound. The Lancers and Fighting Saints would head to the locker room tied at three.
The second period would pick up where the first period left off with a plethora of tallies.
Dubuque would cash in first as forward Gavin Cornforth would throw one in past Olsson after a lucky bounce giving Dubuque the 4-3 advantage.
The Lancers would eventually respond, as forward Aleksi Kivioja would receive a pass in the slot to bury it tying it back up at 4 apiece, as it would be the Lancers first powerplay tally against the Fighting Saints since February of 2016.
However, Dubuque would respond right back as Lancer netminder Eric Olsson would give up another soft rebound allowing Erik Pahlsson to cash in giving the 'Saints a 5-4 lead. Lancers would send in backup goalie Jack Olson right thereafter.
Dubuque would manage to cash in once more before the end of the period as forward Chase LaPinta would bury yet another rebound to extend Dubuque's lead at 6-4.
The third period would continue with high octane offense, as early in the period Drew DellaSalla would complete his hat-trick burying it past the Dubuque netminder to cut the deficit back to within one.
Dubuque however would find the back of the net once again as Charlie Arend took a harmless looking wrist shot from the slot, as netminder Jack Olson would lose track of the shot after hitting his blocker before the puck would find the back of the cage.
Shortly thereafter, forward Chase LaPinta would get his second of the game as he would wrist one past Olson from the faceoff dot to eventually ascend Dubuque to an 8-5 victory despite the Lancers blocking 15 shots in the game while Dubuque blocked just three.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow night against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Puck drop is at 6:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
