DUBUQUE, IA. - The Lancers traveled to Dubuque, Iowa to take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints at ImOn Arena for the first time since 2019. The only other matchups that have occurred between the two teams happened at both the 2021 & 2022 Fall Classic. Resulting in both a 3-2 loss and 3-0 victory for Omaha.
This matchup started hot for the Fighting Saints, tallying four unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes of the opening period. A goal came from Lucas St. Louis, two from Michael Barron and another from Gavin Cornforth.Â
The Lancers got one back as Justin Stupka knocked home a rebound off a shot from Bobby Cowan to pull Omaha back within three, but just before the buzzer signaling the end of the period, Colin Frank banked in a goal to end the opening period with the Lancers down 5-1.
After the lopsided first period, the rest of the game was evenly matched as the scoring settled to 2-2 in the final 40 minutes.Â
Dubuque made it a 6-1 game on an early second period goal from Charlie Arend, but was followed by Stupka's second of the night for Omaha. Moving the game into the intermission with the Fighting Saints up 6-2, with second period shots being an even 10-10.
Both third period goals occurred within the first three minutes with Nick Pierre finding the back of the net for the first time this season to pull the Lancers within three goals, but just 29 seconds later, James Reeder closed out the scoring with the 'Saints seventh of the night. Ending the game in a 7-3 win for Dubuque.
The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th as they will travel to Young Arena to take on the Waterloo Black Hawks. Puck is set to drop at 6:05PM CST. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
