SIOUX CITY, IA. – The Lancers were set in Sioux City for their final game of the 2022-23 season for a rematch against the Musketeers after a hard-fought 5-3 loss last night (4/21). Oskar Siemionek got the call between the pipes tonight for his second United States Hockey League start after stopping 23 of 25 shots last weekend in a 2-1 loss in Sioux Falls.
Like last night's game, Sioux City managed to strike early. Just 5:34 into the game, Max Strand netted a wrap-around style goal for his 8
th of the season after picking up a missed shot from Kaden Shahan for the 1-0 lead for the Musketeers.
Over half a period later, with just 3:16 left in the first period, Reese Laubach went short side on Sioux City netminder, Axel Mangbo off a feed from Matt Romer. Handing Laubach his ninth goal of the season, and second of the weekend. Propelling the game into the first intermission knotted at one.
The Lancers controlled the second period of play by outshooting the Musketeers 11-5, bringing the grand total to 16-13 in favor of Omaha. But we headed into the final period of play still tied, 1-1.
All the action started early in the third period as Laubach netted another goal off a feed from Jamison Sluys while on the power-play, pulling the Lancers ahead, 2-1.
Less than two minutes later, Sioux City got it back as Kyle Rohrer scored on a one-timer from between the hash marks for his first USHL goal, locking the game up at two apiece.
More back-and-forth play ensued as Lancers' Forward, Griffin Jurecki and Musketeers' Captain, Grant Slukynsky each scored one over the next five minutes, moving it to a 3-3 tie.
60 seconds after Slykynsky's goal to tie the game, Laubach got back to work.
After a feed from Matt Romer, Laubach raced the length of the ice and got behind the Sioux City defense. He then sent a shot glove-side on Mangbo to pull the Lancers ahead 4-3, picking up a hat trick in the process. That goal also moved Laubach up to four goals on the weekend.
Sioux City pulled Mangbo with just over a minute to play, and Nick Pierre scored the final goal of the season for his 10th of the year. Winning the game for Omaha, 5-3.
Oskar Siemionek managed to stop 18 of 21 shots faced, picking up his first USHL win.
The Lancers would like to thank everyone for all the love and support this season! We can't wait to see you in the fall!
