LANCERS FALL BY TWO; SPLITS WEEKEND IN MADISON

A Late Go-Ahead Goal Pulls The Capitols To Victory Over The Lancers.

MADISON, WI. – After knocking the Capitols by a score of 4-2 in front of a sold-out Bob Suter Capitol Ice Arena last night (2/17), the Lancers were on the prowl to hand Madison their 30th loss of the season.

Notable performances from last night came from forwards Charlie Lurie and Haden Kruse with picking up two assists each, being the only two players with multi-point nights.

Kevin Pasche also had an impressive outing with turning away 27 of 29 shots faced, guiding himself to a save percentage of 0.931, and dipped his goal against average down to 2.98.

The first period of play was evenly played with the Lancers leading in the shot count 10-9, but both teams were unable to find the back of the net.

Unlike last night (2/17), the penalty boxes were pretty quiet in the first period as the only penalty went to Logan Morrell at the 5:50 mark for tripping, which the Lancers killed off with ease.

The Lancers overall controlled the second period of play, outshooting the opposition by a count of 13-6 for a grand total of 23-14 through 40 minutes, but trailed after the middle frame.

Charlie Michaud started a fast break with Oliver Flynn who found Jan Oleginski in the high slot, as he went blocker-side high on Lancers' netminder, Kevin Pasche to take the 1-0 lead that they held into the second intermission.

The Lancers found the back of the net early on in the third period with a top shelf wrister from Adam Cardona on the power-play, making it a 1-1 game with the majority of the third period still to play.

The tie game held for just over 10 minutes until Trey Ausmus netted what would be the game-winner from the high slot off a feed from Matt McGroarty, making it a 2-1 lead for Madison.

Andrew Kuzma capped off the empty-netter, and the Capitols took the 3-1 victory, forcing the split weekend with Omaha.

The Lancers will continue their road trip in Des Moines next week on February 24th for a 7:05PM CST. puck drop. That game can be caught on FloSports and Mixlr.
