KEARNEY, NE. - The Lancers made the trip west on I-80 for game two of a home-and-home series with the Tri-City Storm after falling 4-0 the night prior (1/20) back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
The Lancers were looking to even up the weekend series and capture their second win of the season against the Storm as their lone victory came back on December 9th in a 4-3 shootout win.
Although the Lancers out-shot the Storm 10-8 through the opening 20 minutes, they trailed by a trio of goals through the opening period.
Starting 6:35 into the period, Kieran Cebrain banged home a rebound to notch his 11th goal of the year while on the man advantage for the early 1-0 lead for Tri-City. The momentum was then fed on later in the period as Daimon Gardner scored twice to extend the Storm lead to 3-0 heading into the first intermission.
Following the Storm's third goal at the 15:56 mark of the first period, goaltender, Michael Hrabal was pulled and relieved by Kevin Pasche for the remainder of the matchup.
The Lancers answered just 1:17 into the second period with a shot from Chris Romaine that was redirected by Logan Morrell over the blocker of Storm goalie, Patriks Berzins to make it a 3-1 game. But less than a minute later, Graham Gamache pulls the Tri-City Storm back up by three goals after hammering home a one-timer lined up by Daimon Gardner and Sabastian Tornqvist.
The scoring for the Storm concluded three minutes later at the 5:00 mark of the second period as Tanner Adams scored his seventh goal of the season unassisted to pull ahead 5-1, a dominant lead that the Storm would take into the second intermission.
The Lancers got their offense going early in the third as Alex Bump lined up Drew Montgomery for a one-timer on an odd man rush to pull within three. That was followed up by Reese Laubach picking up a holding call, sending the Lancers shorthanded.
But just 20 seconds into the penalty kill, Griffin Jurecki, pick-pocketed a Storm defenseman leading to a shorthanded, unassisted breakaway goal, making it a 5-3 game with just over 14 minutes left to play.
The Lancers controlled the remainder of the period, but could not find the back of the net again, leading to a 5-3 loss to Tri-City.
The Lancers will be back in action at Liberty First Credit Union Arena to start a two home-game weekend against the Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday, January 27th at 7:05PM CST. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
