OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers took on the Sioux City Musketeers at Liberty First Credit Union Arena, in what would be their 4th meeting with one another this season. Lancers coach David Wilkie holds a 12-5-6-1 record head-to-head with Sioux City in regular season play coming into tonight's contest. Also coming into tonight's matchup, the Lancers and Sioux City have gone back and forth throughout the years in Ralston; with the Lancers holding a 12-11-5-1 regular season record in matchups against Sioux City held at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
The first period was a well-played, physical period by both teams as each team came out firing with a plethora of shots from each team.
The scoring would open for the good guys as Lancer forward Aleksi Kivioja would deflect one in front of the net to make it 1-0 Omaha.
Later on, Lancer forward Reese Laubach would collide with Sioux City goaltender Axel Mangbo. Laubach would go hard into the post of the goal net and would be some how called for a roughing penalty amidst the chaos.
Sioux City would get called for a high sticking penalty just seconds later, putting teams at even strength 4-on-4 heading into the second period.
The second period had much of the same physical play, and yet fast paced action.
Each team would sustain offensive zone pressure at different point in the second frame, but to no avail leaving it at 1-0 in favor of Omaha going into the third.
The third and final frame was controlled and finished by the orange and black, as Michael Hrabal would stop all 28 Sioux City shots to give him his second shutout of the season. Hrabal was on point all night long, as the majority of Sioux City's chances were from the high slot, but Hrabal was able to pinpoint them all to lead Omaha to a 1-0 victory.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow night at Liberty First Credit Union Arena against the Waterloo Blackhawks. Puck drop is at 6:05 CST. You can catch the game on FloSports or Mixlr.
