LANCERS GRAB A POINT IN FIRST GAME OF THE HOLIDAY ROAD TRIP

After Trailing In The Third Period, The Musketeers Net Two Unanswered To Win In Overtime.

SIOUX CITY, IA. – The Lancers kicked off the holiday week with a Thanksgiving Eve. matchup with the Sioux City Musketeers. The Lancers have only seen the defending Clark Cup Champions once this regular season, which was a 2-1 Omaha victory back at Liberty First Credit Union Arena on October 15th.

The Lancers were coming off of a 3-2 shootout victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede, as the Musketeers had the weekend off, going without a game for 10 days.

The only goal of the first period was scored by Sioux City, handing Grant Slukynsky his first of the regular season, for his seventh point on the season with Ryan Conmy on the lone assist.
Slukynsky was left alone in the slot area and had a lot of time to stick handle around Omaha netminder, Michael Hrabal to take the 1-0 lead.

The second period was a dominate one for Sioux City, outshooting the Lancers 15-3. However, Hrabal stood strong stopping all 15 shots he saw, forcing the 1-0 game into the second intermission.

The Lancers managed to get the sticks going in the first half of the third period as Alex Bump was able to capture both his sixth and seventh goals of the season in the form of the tying and go-ahead goal.

4:33 into the third Bump scooped up a feed off a play set up by Charlie Lurie and Drew Montgomery, ripped a short-range shot that was blocked by Tomi Lappanen, followed by Bump burying the loose puck on the powerplay to make it a 1-1 game.

Three minutes later Bump's second goal came around on even strength with assists from Adam Cardona and Montgomery as he beat Sioux city netminder Axel Mangbo short-side from just outside the high slot to take the 2-1 lead.

That lead lasted for the next nine minutes, but then Tomek Haula netted a rebound off a shot from Garrett Brown to lock the game at two with only 3:31 left to play in regulation, which forced overtime.

The Lancers had the early control in the overtime period, but Ben Doran won a defensive zone faceoff that was tipped by Mangbo to Ben Poitras. Poitras carried the puck end-to-end and beat Hrabal glove-side high to give Sioux City the overtime victory.

The Lancers have gathered three of the past four available points as their record moves to 5-8-3-1. The victory hands Sioux City their eighth win in their last ten games as they improve to 8-6-2-0 on the year.

The Lancers will be back in action on Friday, November 25th for a 7:05PM CST puck drop in Fargo, North Dakota to take on the Force. That game can be caught on Mixlr and FloSports.
